Settings
The settings Menu
General Settings: Here you set your Website Title, Tagline, WordPress Url, Your email address, Time zone, if you want to enable new users to register.
Writing Settings:
Not so important to set up, I generally leave these as they are.
If you work with “categories” it may be one setting that you want to automate as the “Default Post Category” = ‘your main category’
Reading Settings:
Where you set your Home Page to be either a POST or a PAGE (A Static Page) or the first option is a changing one “Your Latest Posts”
Also set how many posts a Blog Post can have.
The Syndication feeds part is for more advanced users.
Discussion Settings:
Here you either allow or disallow comments etc.
As comment boxes can be used for porn links and general spam at the very least choose ‘With admin approval’. With this setting you will get an email whenever a comment is left on your page BUT at least it will not appear on the page unless you as administrator ‘approve it’
The ‘approve comment’ is done in the section ‘comments’
Pingbacks seem to be used by spamming websites, designed for relating and linking to similar websites, they are now abused – Turn them off.
Media Settings: The media settings has it’s own page here.
Privacy Settings: is where you choose to ‘Allow search engines to index this site’. This would be the normal choice as it means that your website can be found in the search engines.
Permalink Settings: These are for nice website urls, the pages url becomes part of the website address for that page and it’s page title is included rather than ugly numbers, question marks and undescriptive urls.
